Located in the heart of Saratoga County
on a peaceful 275-acre campus, we’re helping young women
on their paths to personal growth and healing.

The Charlton School is a space for growth

The Charlton School is a unique non-profit therapeutic learning community for young women in grades 7-12, who are facing significant mental health challenges that are negatively impacting their daily lives. This may be due to struggles with anxiety, depression, trauma, identity, self-injurious behaviors, mood disorders, or school refusal.

We provide a highly structured approach to therapeutic services and campus life, while also offering students a hands-on, experiential New York State High School Curriculum. Our goal is to bolster their intellectual, social, and emotional well-being in a place where they feel seen and heard while empowering them to become vibrant members of society.

We provide two areas of focus:

Academic:
Ketchum Grande Memorial School

Our on-site school provides individualized educational programming that follows the New York State High School Learning Standards for both residential and day students.

Therapeutic:

We understand that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all model. Our licensed mental health professionals provide a highly-individualized, clinically-focused approach for each student. Therapy is offered through individual and family sessions, equine sessions and art therapy, all of which provide our students opportunities to explore and learn about themselves and how best to live and thrive.

Embrace individuality.
Encourage discovery.

We know that young women facing mental health challenges can be unfairly labeled and grouped into broad categories, without being recognized for their individual strengths and needs. Here at the Charlton School, we strive to get to know and understand each student, meet them where they are at, and develop a plan that works for them.

Message from Alex Capo, LMHC, Executive Director

As a part of the The Charlton School community since 2003, I have served as a Therapist, Clinical Director, and Executive Director.

We understand the overwhelming experience and feelings that are involved with sending your child away from home; it’s difficult for everyone to understand that this is such a selfless act of love and one that demonstrates your confidence in them and in The Charlton School. We strive to be with you and your child throughout this process, beginning with the admissions process and all the way through to their return to home or their graduation from our program. I take pride in knowing all of our students and their families and consider this to be a vital part of my role here as Executive Director. Our clinical, campus-life, and educational staff are in constant collaboration to ensure that the effectiveness of the highly-individualized, therapeutic environment we have created demonstrates progress toward the ever-evolving individual student needs.

We always encourage the family members and support systems of our students to stay connected with us, and we will keep you informed along the way.  If you feel that all other options have been exhausted for your child, perhaps it is the right time to explore whether The Charlton School might be a fit for your family’s needs. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me anytime to better understand our space for growth.
